Many people are fueled to go to a certain city or country to experience the iconic tourist destinations. I have been to some of the most famous and talked about cities and have seen most of the sites but these are the ones that are actually worth the hype in my opinion. Here is a list of the best thing from each country I have been to.
Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Why? Although you will be surrounded by a bunch of people who are trying to take the same picture as you, the statue triumphs all the distractions. As you look around, you are dwarfed by the statue and you look around to see the panoramic view atop a mountain that over looks the huge city. Additionally, inside of the statue is a chapel, which for any Christian is as appropriate as attending the Vatican.
The Sistine Chapel, Vatican City, Rome
Why? There is so much thought out detail and beautiful execution that you want to just stare at it for hours, although that would hurt your neck. Additionally, Vatican City is a must if you are in Rome. I mean, in the museum they literally have the oldest stuff in the world.
*I unfortunately don’t have any of my own pictures of the Sistine Chapel or Vatican City because my camera broke when I was trying to sneak a picture of the David statue in Florence*
Real Alcazar, Sevilla, Spain
Why? This destination is not only for you Game of Thrones fans, but for anyone who would want to visit a royal palace. Unlike other palaces that are enclosed and rather stuffy, this palace includes botanical gardens. I really wish that I could live here.
El Yunque, Puerto Rico
Why? You can go to many other places in the Caribbean that are warm with beautiful beaches, but not all have a lush rain forest in the middle of them. We went zip lining in the forest and saw some, but not all, of the waterfalls. There are plenty of tour guides that will show you around and make sure you don’t get lost.
Acropolis, Athens, Greece
Why? Why not? It’s so old that it is a marvel that it is still standing. There are many different buildings to see and since it is located on top of the mountain, you overlook the entire city for miles around. Also if you are a student and have a student ID you can get in for free.
Belem Tower, Lisbon, Portugal
Why? The Belem Tower is the most iconic building in Lisbon and I would argue it is the most beautiful. Unlike the Jeronimos Monastery, you won’t have to wait in line for hours to walk around it and explore. Plus, it has the view of the water.
Desert Tour, Dubai, UAE
Why? Even though Dubai is very metropolitan it does still lie just outside a desert. In order to understand the traditional culture and experience the desert I suggest taking one of these tours. First, they come to pick you up from your hotel and take you out for some sand duning. Lastly, you stop at a Bedouin camp where you enjoy a fabulous dinner and a belly dancing show. You also have the option to ride a camel, get a henna tattoo or buy local crafts. This tour is definitely worth it.
