Many years ago, Puerto Rican Barbie was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She moved to Florida when she was very young and there she met a girl from Wisconsin who took her home to the land of cheese and the Green Bay Packers. For many years she lived in a dark dungeon of snow and cold until one day she finally had the opportunity to go back to visit her beautiful island.
In the heart of a bitter January, where it was advised for people to stay inside, Barbie thought now was the time to seize the opportunity and head to the Caribbean. She knew that during the holiday time there were many festivals happening in San Juan and that it would be the perfect time to go to the lively city. She searched online until she found a great deal for a flight and a place to stay and next thing she knew, her dream of returning to her home would be realized!
Barbie arrived in San Juan and right away headed to the beach! The beaches were clean and very beautiful, being surrounded by palm trees. They certainly don’t have palm trees in Wisconsin! The weather was perfect. It was 85 degrees everyday, sunny and humid. Barbie’s favorite way to cool off was with a dip in the ocean and drinking from a coconut.
She spent the rest of her days shopping and going out to dinner. The food was delicious and very filling, so she often had to take home leftovers. Her favorite meals were mofongo, of course, and ropa vieja. If only should could get the same flavors back home!
After a few days, Barbie started to miss her friends and family. Traveling around by herself was a bit lonely but luckily she was able to talk to them on the phone. Paradise isn’t always perfect if you aren’t with the ones you love. However, she knew her trip was coming to an end so instead of getting homesick she decided to enjoy the last few days she had in Puerto Rico.
Barbie headed to the beaches in Condado where she could go snokeling, kayaking or other adventurous activities. She snapped a photo of herself to send to her family at home. It certainly was picture perfect; it should be on a postcard! After soaking up the sun for days and enjoying the delicious food and dancing to salsa music, Puerto Rican Barbie’s trip was soon going to be over.
The next day she hopped in a taxi and headed to the airport. She found her gate and had a bittersweet feeling about heading back to Wisconsin. As she waited to board she reminisced about her trip: the beaches, the palm trees, the heat and humidity, the smiling people walking up and down the streets. She had never felt so welcomed and at home but now she had to leave!
Once she boarded the airplane, Barbie sat in her assigned seat and fastened her seatbelt. She stared out the window for the last few minutes to remember every detail of her beautiful home.
